I had my first biopsy today, at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York An all-round good experience. No IV, no drugs except the local (lidocane) numbing- none needed! Not sonogram-directed, just a couple of quick taps on my ribs (the "stud-finder" method of locating the liver - worked like a charm). No pain in the shoulder. I only had to lay on my side for 1 1/2 hours, then on my back for another hour, then I was tilted up for lunch (the most challenging aspect of the treatment) followed by one last hour of exchanging pleasantries with my nurse. In the end, they had to ask me to leave. They had to twist my arm to get me to take 2 Tylenol (I'm not one for taking drugs much anymore- that's how I got into this mess in the first place, a quarter of a century ago) and now, four hours later, I'm hardly feeling any discomfort. A good experience after some trepidation leading up to the biopsy, but I have been resigned to it. I know I needed
it and it was for my own good. Forgive my spelling handicap.... |
